President Robert Shegog
Robert Shegog is President and CEO of the Recorder Media Group, Indiana's leading minority-owned communications company. Under his leadership are the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper, the premier voice of Central Indiana's Black community since 1895, and Indiana Minority Business Magazine (IMBM), the region's only business publication inclusive of all people of color. IMBM focuses on business, lifestyle, and diversity.
Both the Recorder and IMBM are national and local award-winning publications. Originally from Mississippi, Robert knew that he wanted to help people from a very early age. He first served in the Navy before immersing himself in public service for over 20 years. Upon moving to Indianapolis, he began working on the executive leadership team of PACE, an organization that helps ex-offenders lead progressive lives post-incarceration. PACE helps clients establish normalcy by offering financial coaching, mental health services, and employment training, among other programs and services. Robert took the helm of Recorder Media Group in 2018.
As a hands-on executive, he works closely with his team to ensure the Recorder produces the highest quality products for Blacks and other people of color. Throughout his time leading the Recorder and IMBM, Shegog has been instrumental in building continuity across the company’s platforms, amplifying community engagement strategies, and ensuring that the Recorder’s coverage is always representative of the community. Shegog’s high expectations for himself and his team have led to the Recorder remaining one of the top African American newspapers in the country. Shegog is credited for his innovative approach to newsgathering, which has led to the expansion of a robust newsroom staff that has garnered over 40 awards over the past two years alone. The honors are from distinguished journalism entities, including but not limited to the Hoosier State Press Association, the National Newspaper Publishers Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists
In addition, he has established strong partnerships with critical community and business leaders and organizations, enhanced the electronic brand of the newspaper and magazine, and created robust internal systems that reduced costs and improved efficiency.
He is serving as the Vice President of Print for the Indianapolis Association of Black Journalists.
