Immediate President, Robert Shegog
Robert Shegog, proud president and CEO of the Recorder Media Group, Indiana’s leading minority-owned communications company. Since 2018, he’s had the privilege of leading our award-winning Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper, which has served Central Indiana's Black community since 1895. The Recorder also launched Indiana Minority Business Magazine (IMBM), the state’s only publication dedicated to people of color in various sectors. To broaden our reach nationally, he introduced The Minority Business Review (MBR), a platform designed to elevate the voices and experiences of minorities while providing valuable business insights.
His journey started in Mississippi, where he developed a strong passion for service and leadership. The U.S. Navy further shaped his passion, teaching me discipline and resilience—qualities that have guided him throughout his career. Following his military service, he spent over 20 years in public service, refining his leadership skills and committing to making a difference in the lives of others.
Relocating to Indianapolis, he quickly became an influential voice in the local business landscape, building valuable partnerships that have positively impacted our community. Giving back has always been integral to his mission, which is reflected in his involvement with various community organizations advocating for marginalized groups.
Since taking the helm at the Recorder Media Group, he’s implemented innovative strategies that have expanded our platforms, enhanced our digital presence, and strengthened community engagement. Under his leadership, they’ve garnered over 100 awards from respected organizations like the Hoosier State Press Association and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, ensuring our newsroom upholds high-quality content and remains one of the premier African American newspapers in the country.
His efforts in business and community leadership have earned him recognition, including being named to the IBJ 250, a list of Indiana's most influential business leaders for 2024. He is also honored to be nominated for the American Heart Association’s Leaders of Impact campaign, reflecting my commitment to the community.
Beyond his work with the Recorder Media Group, he actively serves on multiple boards, further promoting values that uplift and empower our communities. His story is a testament to how visionary leadership can transform media and create lasting change, and I am dedicated to making Indiana—and beyond—a better place for everyone.
